Sage Zellige Kitchen Backsplash in Schertz
This kitchen backsplash in a Schertz home near Green Valley Farms used handmade zellige tile in a sage green glaze. Zellige is a Moroccan clay tile that has natural variation in glaze thickness and surface texture, which gives it a handcrafted look that machine-made tile cannot replicate. Because of that variation, the layout requires more care: tiles are sorted and distributed across the wall so that color and texture variation is spread evenly rather than concentrated in one area.
The backsplash runs from countertop to the underside of the open wood shelving, with precise cuts at the shelf brackets and outlets. A level reference line was snapped at the countertop height to ensure the first course of tile was straight despite the countertop's slight variation. Grout was applied in a matching sage tone and sealed after curing to protect against kitchen oil and moisture.
