Bathroom & Shower Tile
Shower tile fails when the waterproofing layer underneath is inadequate. Everything visible on the surface depends on what was done before the first tile went up. We start with the membrane, not the tile.

How a Shower Remodel Works, Step by Step
Demolition and Inspection
The existing surround or tile comes out. Once the substrate is exposed, we inspect the framing and backer for moisture damage. Any soft spots or mold are addressed before anything new goes in.
Waterproofing Membrane
We apply a waterproofing membrane to the shower walls and pan. Products like Schluter Kerdi or RedGard create a continuous barrier that keeps water out of the wall cavity. The membrane is tested before tile goes up.
Shower Pan Slope
The shower floor is sloped at 1/4 inch per foot toward the drain. This is not optional. A flat shower floor holds standing water and accelerates grout deterioration.
Layout and Setting
Wall tile layout starts from the most visible focal point and works outward. Large-format tiles are back-buttered for full mortar coverage. Niches and shelves are framed and tiled before the surrounding wall.
Grouting and Sealing
Grout is applied after thinset has cured. Corners and transitions between surfaces use silicone caulk rather than grout, because those joints move slightly and grout will crack there. Grout is sealed after it cures.
