Green Zellige Backsplash in Cibolo

White kitchen with glossy green zellige square tile backsplash lit by under-cabinet lighting in a Cibolo home

This kitchen backsplash in a Cibolo home in the Estates at Turning Stone neighborhood used a 4x4 inch handmade zellige tile in a deep glossy green. The kitchen had white flat-front cabinets and the homeowner wanted a backsplash with visual texture and color. Zellige achieves both because the glaze is applied by hand and varies in thickness, creating subtle surface variation that catches light differently depending on the angle of view.

Under-cabinet LED lighting was already installed, which made the glaze variation even more pronounced. The tile was set in a running bond pattern with tight 1/16 inch joints. Outlet boxes required precise notch cuts so the tile edges met cleanly around the cover plates. Grout was applied in a cream tone to complement the glaze rather than contrast with it, then sealed with a penetrating sealer to prevent staining from kitchen oils.
